Free tracking check

Tracking check: is your website measuring what your campaigns need?

In a few seconds we check whether Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, the Meta Pixel, a cookie banner and Google Consent Mode v2 are set up on your website. Free, no sign-up.

What we check

Seven components that measurement depends on.

The check reads the source code of your home page and, where present, your publicly available Google Tag Manager container. That way it also finds tags that are only loaded through Tag Manager.

  • Google Tag Manager

Whether a container is installed and whether it is loaded from your own domain, which points to first-party or server-side tagging.

  • Google Analytics 4

Whether GA4 is set up, including the measurement ID. Also flags Universal Analytics that is still installed but has processed no data since 2023.

  • Google Ads conversion tracking

Whether a Google Ads tag is present and whether the Conversion Linker is missing in Tag Manager, without which click information is lost.

  • Meta Pixel

Whether the pixel for Facebook and Instagram advertising is installed, directly in the code or via Tag Manager.

  • Cookie banner

Whether a consent tool can be identified, such as Cookiebot, Usercentrics, OneTrust, Borlabs or Complianz.

  • Google Consent Mode v2

Whether consent is passed to Google with all four signals, including ad_user_data and ad_personalization.

  • Other platforms

LinkedIn Insight Tag, TikTok Pixel, Microsoft Ads (UET), Pinterest, Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, Matomo and more.

In context

What the check can do, and what it cannot.

The check reliably shows which tools are installed and where there are obvious gaps, such as missing Consent Mode or tracking without a consent tool.

It does not show whether the tags fire correctly, which conversions are counted, whether data arrives twice or whether the Meta Conversions API sends data server-side. That takes a look inside your accounts: a tracking audit.

Some sites only load tags after consent or block automated requests. In that case the check may miss individual tools or not be able to check the site at all. The result points this out.

FAQ

Questions about the tracking check

Is the tracking check free?

Yes. The check is free, with no sign-up and no obligation. You enter a domain and see the result straight away in your browser.

What is Google Consent Mode v2 and do I need it?

Consent Mode v2 tells Google whether a visitor has agreed to their data being used for advertising and analytics. Since March 2024, Google has required these signals for users in the European Economic Area when data is used for Google Ads, in particular the two new signals ad_user_data and ad_personalization. Without them, remarketing lists stop growing and Google cannot model missing conversions. Anyone running Google Ads in the EU therefore practically always needs Consent Mode v2.

Why does the check not find my GA4 or Meta Pixel?

Common reasons: the tags are only loaded by a consent tool after consent is given, they sit inside bundled JavaScript files, or the site blocks automated requests. Tags deployed via Google Tag Manager are usually found, because the check also reads the public container.

How reliable is the result?

Whatever the check finds is installed. Whether it works correctly cannot be determined from the outside. A green result therefore means the components are in place. Whether they deliver the right data only becomes clear in a tracking audit.

Does the check cover server-side tracking and the Meta Conversions API?

Only indirectly. If Tag Manager is loaded from your own domain, the check points to first-party or server-side tagging. Whether the Meta Conversions API or a server-side Google Tag Manager container sends data is not visible from the outside.

Does the check work with WordPress, Shopify, Wix or other systems?

Yes. The check analyses what your website delivers to the browser. Which system it is built with makes no difference.

What data do you store?

We only store the domain checked, the time and the result, no IP address and nothing about you. Details are in our privacy policy.

What is the difference between the check and a tracking audit?

The check looks at your website from the outside. In an audit, with access to your accounts, we check whether Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta and Tag Manager count the right conversions, whether data is being lost and where budget is misdirected as a result. The outcome is a concrete action plan.
